(ongoing-) paper

This is a project I come back to from time to time – simply slitting paper. Quite a lot of my work involes scalpel on paper, and this pares that down to its most foundational element. The act of creating is almost rapistic, involving stabbing and slashing the paper quite brutally with a scalpel.

When I started doing them I was completely unaware of Lucio Fontana’s famous slashed canvases, but I am delighted that this could be seen as a sort of feminist conversation with those works.
